HEALTHY DRINKING WATER - ALKALINE WATER?
All good health stems from an alkaline body and sufficient oxygen at the cellular level. Anything we put in our body affects our alkalinity. This includes not just the food we eat, but also the water we drink. Most of us are unaware we are drinking acidic water. The water that comes out of most bottled waters we buy are acidic. Tap water usually comes in with a pH level right around 6.75 and bottled water can be much worse. Ideally, our pH level, which measures the acidity or alkalinity of our body, or in other words the sickness (acidity) or health (alkalinity) of our body, needs to be 7.365 or a number very close to that. A pH level below 7 tells us we are acidic while a pH level above 7 tells us we are heading towards alkalinity. The same numbers apply to our water too. We are wasting our hard-earned money buying bottled water, not to mention all the waste involved with manufacturing plastic water bottles. Approximately 28 billion plastic water bottles are purchased every single year; almost 80% are never even recycled!! Most bottled water is acidic because the processes of: Distilling, reverse osmosis, or removing alkalizing minerals.
Dr.Otto Heinrich Warburg: a biochemist and 1931 Nobel Prize winner for his work with cancer cells and oxygenation told us about the connection between acidic water and disease long ago.
"Diseased tissues are acidic, whereas healthy tissues are alkaline. Water contains hydrogen ions (H+) and hydroxide ions (OH-). If there is an excess of H+, it is acidic. If there is an excess of OH- ions, then it is alkaline." More simply, the pH scale is a measure of the number of hydrogen ions(H+) and hydroxide ions (OH-) in a solution. If there are a lot of hydrogen ions the pH is very low or acidic. If there are a lot of hydroxide ions that means the number of hydrogen ions are very low, so the pH is high or alkaline. Therefore, acid water leads to acid tissues and alkaline water leads to alkaline tissues. The absence of alkalizing minerals in our water draws the alkalizing minerals out of our bones and teeth. This necessary to buffer the acidity in our body which comes from drinking acidic water.
What happens then? Mineral deficiencies, free radical production!
Clearly, our goal to be healthy must include adding alkalizing water to our daily routine.
How much water should you drink? A 140 lb. person would drink 70 ounces. This washes away the acidic metabolic wastes produced by your body each day. Ideally, you should drink your weight in ounces for more potent therapeutic effects.
At a minimum, you should drink half your weight in ounces each day!
